El Mariachi

One line review: A fun and interesting story, that also seems to just breathe with the idea that this film was a man’s dream.

Movie Title: El Mariachi

Actors: Carlos Gallardo, Consuelo Gómez, Jaime de Hoyos, Peter Marquardt, Reinol Martinez, Ramiro Gómez

Director: Robert Rodriguez

Year: 1992

Genre: Action / Drama

Method of Viewing: DVD

Location of Viewing: Home

Viewing with: No One

Rotten Tomatoes: 92% – Made on a shoestring budget, El Mariachi’s story is not new. However, the movie has so much energy that it’s thoroughly enjoyable.

My rating: ****

My assessment (the first 101 words at least): This was just an enjoyable film. Perhaps it’s cheating that I read up on some of the tricks that Rodriguez had to use and how much he struggled just to fill his dreams. Still, I firmly believe that when so much passion is poured into something, it shows. You can tell that someone poured a lot of passion and love into this film, just from the combination of minor details and in between bits. Though the rest of the Mexican Trilogy isn’t on my list, I’ll probably look into it anyway, just because I want to see more. Very big recommendation.
